Resumen

The Universidad Nacional Tecnológica de Lima Sur (UNTELS) is a small public university created by law in January 2001 (Ley 27431). It serves the southern districts of Lima. SUNEDU licensed it in June 2018 (Resolución 059-2018), originally for five programmes; under Ley 32105 (2024), licences no longer need periodic renewal.

The focus is applied engineering and technology for the fast-growing south of the city. UNTELS is not listed in QS, THE or other major rankings, and no recent official enrolment figure was found. The 2018 licensing file reported about 2,700 students, and numbers have grown since.

As a public university, undergraduate teaching is free for Peruvian students. Only administrative fees apply, such as the admission application, ID card and certificates.

Oferta académica

UNTELS offers ten undergraduate programmes. The five original ones are Systems Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Electronic and Telecommunications Engineering, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, and Business Administration. In 2026 it launched five more: Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, Software Engineering, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, and Marketing and International Business.

Teaching is in Spanish, in semesters. UNTELS is also a member of the International Astronautical Federation, reflecting small-satellite and electronics projects.

Vida en el campus

The campus is at Av. Bolívar / Av. Central in Villa El Salvador (Lomo de Corvina sector). It's about five minutes from the Villa El Salvador station of Metro Line 1, which runs straight to central Lima. Free services include a student canteen, food grants and a gym. It is a working-class, commuter campus with little nightlife around it. Social life is usually found in Barranco or Miraflores.

Intercambios

A small Oficina de Cooperación y Relaciones Internacionales exists. Recent agreements include Taizhou University and Jiangsu Normal University in China (2025), plus Peruvian universities such as UNAMBA and Universidad de Ciencias y Humanidades. No incoming-exchange procedure, course catalogue for visitors or English-taught offer was found. Visiting students should contact the office directly — Information pending — contributions welcome.

Admisión

Entry is through the admission exam. For Admisión 2026-II, UNTELS offered 600 places (60 per programme) with the exam in mid-August 2026 and the semester starting in September. Earlier rounds were much smaller: 867 applicants competed for 170 places in 2025-I, and there were about 950 applicants in 2026-I. With no consistent official applicant and admission totals for one process, the acceptance rate is left blank.

Foreign applicants need their secondary certificate apostilled and convalidated by MINEDU. For stays of a year or more, they need the calidad migratoria de formación residente from Migraciones (online, S/58.80). How foreign degree-seekers are charged was not documented.

Alojamiento

There is no university housing. Rooms in Villa El Salvador and neighbouring Chorrillos or San Juan de Miraflores are among the cheapest in Lima, roughly S/350–600 per month (≈ €90–150). That estimate is based on general listings, not UNTELS data. Living in Barranco or Chorrillos near Metro Line 1 is a common compromise.

Empleabilidad

Information pending — contributions welcome. No structured careers-office data was found. Graduates mostly move into engineering, IT and administrative jobs in Lima.
