Resumen
The Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) is Peru's highest-ranked university in the QS World University Rankings 2027 (357th worldwide, 10th in Latin America, and first in Peru for a fourteenth consecutive year). Founded in 1917, it is a private Catholic university that has become a comprehensive research institution known for academic rigour and public life. PUCP alumni are prominent in Peruvian law, government, engineering, and the social sciences.
The main campus is on Avenida Universitaria 1801 in San Miguel, Lima. Official infrastructure figures put the campus at about 41 hectares (413,902 m2), a green, self-contained site in a metro area of around 10 million. PUCP publishes about 25,600 student users of its campus systems for 2025. Tuition is scaled by family income (escalas G1–G9), so the sticker price is not what most Peruvian students pay.
Oferta académica
PUCP is strong across Engineering (Civil, Industrial, Mechanical, Electronic), Law, and the Social Sciences (Sociology, Political Science, Anthropology), with fieldwork across Peru. Humanities — especially Literature and Philosophy — remain central to Peruvian intellectual life. Business is taught through the Faculty of Management Sciences; architecture and the arts use the university's own cultural spaces. All undergraduates pass through Estudios Generales (Letras or Ciencias), a two-year liberal-arts foundation before specialising. That structure still distinguishes PUCP from more vocational Peruvian universities.
Vida en el campus
The San Miguel campus is an oasis of gardens and courtyards. The Tinkuy food court, cafeterias, and a campus supermarket make it easy to stay on site all day. Cultural life is unusually rich for Lima: the Centro Cultural PUCP is a major venue for film, theatre, and lectures. Student organisations (centros federados) are politically active. Sports facilities include football fields, a pool, gyms, and courts, and the annual interfacultades competition is a campus ritual. Miraflores, Barranco, and other nightlife districts are a bus or taxi ride away.
Intercambios
Inbound exchange is run by the Dirección Académica de Relaciones Institucionales (DARI). In semester 2026-1 the university welcomed a campus international community of 140 students (85 new arrivals plus continuing exchangers), mainly from France, Germany, the United States, Spain, and the United Kingdom — fewer than older "400 a semester" figures. Outbound PUCP students apply to 250+ partner universities; the 2027-2 call also describes more than 300 regular and compensated exchange programmes in 30+ countries. PUCP is a founding CINDA member and coordinates the CINDA PIU mobility programme. DARI offers orientation, housing leads, and a Spanish-as-a-foreign-language track. Some engineering and business courses run in English, but most teaching is in Spanish.
Admisión
Domestic admission uses several tracks. The main exam route is Evaluación del Talento (reading comprehension and mathematics, plus school grades). Other 2027-1 routes include La Primera Opción, Diploma de Bachillerato (IB, Abitur, French Bac, Italian Maturità, Cambridge), Admisión por Rendimiento Superior, and CeprePUCP. PUCP does not publish an overall acceptance rate. For 2027-1 (classes in March 2027), the Bachillerato second call runs from 21 September 2026 to 20 January 2027. The academic year is March–July and August–December. Applicants with foreign credentials need apostilled transcripts. Spanish at B1 is the practical minimum for most courses.
Tuition uses nine income scales (G1–G9) that the university kept in place after suspending a 2027 reform. For 2026-2 a credit costs S/304.60 on G1 and S/1,164.10 on G9, plus a registration fee. A typical 22-credit semester on mid-scale G5 is about S/16,100 (around S/32,200 a year). Students who skip the socio-economic evaluation are placed on G9 (about S/52,100 a year at 22 credits per semester). International degree-seekers who do not file that evaluation should budget for G9.
Alojamiento
PUCP does not operate dormitories. Most Peruvian students live with family. International students rent rooms or flats nearby. San Miguel rooms are often S/600–S/900 a month; Pueblo Libre and Jesús María run S/800–S/1,200; Miraflores and San Isidro are pricier (S/1,200–S/2,000) but popular for safety and restaurants. DARI keeps a list of vetted landlords and roommate matches. Living on the Metropolitano corridor or within a short walk of campus is easier than relying on informal combis.
Empleabilidad
The Bolsa de Trabajo is a widely used graduate job board for Peruvian and multinational employers. Career fairs and corporate presentations are regular. The PUCP name carries weight in Peru across government, the courts, business, NGOs, and academia. Centrum PUCP, the business school, extends postgraduate and executive networking. For international students, a PUCP semester is most useful for Latin American development, diplomacy, or firms with Peruvian operations.
