Overview

The Universidad Unión Bolivariana (UUB) is a small private university named after Simón Bolívar. The Ministerio de Educación authorised it to open by Resolución Ministerial 364/03 of 3 October 2003; its legal personality dates from 2001. Decreto Supremo 1065 (28 November 2011) ratified that authorisation under Bolivia's education law, Law 070. It sits outside the public CEUB system and answers to the Ministry's private-university regulations. The rector is Pedro Quiroz Calle.

UUB does not publish enrolment, and it does not appear in QS, Scimago, THE or other major rankings. This is one of the least documented universities in La Paz, so expect to gather most information in person.

Academic programs

UUB offers six four-year licenciaturas: Business Administration, Public Accounting, Law, Education Sciences, Systems Engineering, and Finance and International Relations. There are also diplomados and maestrías, for example in transparency and anti-corruption, and short courses such as CPR training. The Law and Accounting carreras are the most visible in its communications, and graduation includes modalities such as trabajo dirigido.

Fees: not published. Ask the university directly. Treat any figure found on third-party sites with caution.

Campus life

The La Paz seat is on Calle Federico Zuazo No. 1972 (between Batallón Colorados and Severino Zapata). That is central La Paz, a few blocks from El Prado and near UMSA's Monoblock and the San Pedro and Sopocachi neighbourhoods. LinkedIn posts also mention a seat in El Alto. Student life is modest and commuter-based: a Día del Estudiante party every 21 September, some academic events, and whatever the city centre offers. Expect the usual La Paz altitude (about 3,600 m) and cold evenings.

Exchange programs

No outbound or inbound student exchange programme was found. The international profile runs through institutional agreements. In 2025 UUB signed with the Parlamento Andino, and 50 UUB students were sworn in to the Parlamento Andino Universitario, with access to internships, scholarships and research spaces the network manages. In June 2025 it also explored cooperation with the Sahrawi (RASD) embassy. Information pending on university-to-university partners — contributions welcome.

Admissions

Information pending on UUB's admission modality and intake calendar — contributions welcome. International degree-seekers should expect to present a legalised or apostilled secondary diploma for validation, and they must convert the 60-day Bolivian student visa into a DIGEMIG permanencia temporal de estudiante (1–3 years, renewable). Check before enrolling that UUB can issue the acceptance letter the visa process requires.

Student housing

There are no residences. Its central location means students can rent in Sopocachi, San Pedro or Miraflores, where recent listings show rooms for about Bs 800–1,200 a month (about €63–95 at the September 2026 official rate). Many ads predate the 2026 devaluation.

Career services

UUB has a 2024 agreement with the Cámara de Diputados (Bolivia's lower house) for trabajo dirigido and pasantías, which is useful for Law and International Relations students. Its Parlamento Andino membership adds internship and scholarship options. Information pending on a general job board — contributions welcome.
