Overview

Fundación Universidad de América is a small private university in Bogotá. It was founded in 1956 and marked its 70th anniversary in 2026. It is best known nationally for petroleum engineering, a programme that for decades supplied Colombia's oil sector. MEN data compiled by El Observatorio de la Universidad Colombiana put enrolment at only 2,056 students in 2025, so classes are small.

The university has two sites:

The institution does not yet hold CNA institutional accreditation; it has been self-evaluating (2020–2025) and says the process is under way. Individual programmes are accredited, including Ingeniería Química and Arquitectura (Resolución 015799 of 9 June 2026, six years). We found no U-Sapiens or Scimago position.

Academic programs

The university has three faculties:

Postgraduate strength mirrors this, with masters in Ingeniería de Yacimientos and in Recuperación Avanzada de Hidrocarburos. Teaching is in Spanish.

Tuition is per semester. The 2026 list price for Petróleos and Química is COP 8,746,842 (about EUR 2,350), the headline tuition figure. With the 70th-anniversary discounts of 18–41%, new students paid COP 5,243,300 for those programmes and COP 5,657,600 for Arquitectura. No separate foreign rate is published.

Campus life

With about two thousand students, the university feels like a school where staff know students by name. The EcoCampus sits on the hills with views over the centre. It is a short walk down to La Candelaria, the Eje Ambiental and the Universidad de los Andes area, whose cafés and cultural life double as the social scene. Bienestar runs sports and cultural groups. Specific facility lists are thin online: Information pending — contributions welcome.

Exchange programs

The internationalization office cites 200+ partner universities through bilateral agreements and the OUI and PILA networks. It recorded 1,613 two-way mobility actions in 2025; this figure includes short and virtual activities, mostly with Latin America. Incoming students fill in the online form and email the mobility coordinator (luisa.manchego@uamerica.edu.co). Engineering and architecture are the realistic fits.

Admissions

Applicants need Saber 11 or an equivalent. Those schooled abroad need their bachillerato apostilled and convalidated with the MEN; this is free and takes about 15 working days. Registration was free in 2026, and admission is effectively rolling up to the start of each semester. No acceptance data is published. Stays of more than 180 days, or nationals who need a visa, require the Cancillería Visa V Estudiante.

Student housing

There are no residences. Students at the EcoCampus usually rent in La Candelaria, Las Aguas or Teusaquillo. Those at the Sede Norte look in Usaquén or Santa Bárbara. Furnished rooms in central Bogotá generally cost COP 650,000–950,000 per month. Be careful walking the Circunvalar area after dark.

Career services

The university leans on its long-standing ties to the hydrocarbons and chemical industries for internships and employment, and graduate relations are handled centrally. We found no published employment data: Information pending — contributions welcome.
