Overview
The Universidad CEU San Pablo is a private Catholic university in Madrid, part of the CEU educational network — one of the largest private education groups in Spain, linked to the Asociación Católica de Propagandistas. Founded in 1993 as a full university (predecessor institutions date back to the 1930s), it has built a reputation for professionally oriented education with strong corporate connections.
The main teaching campus is at Montepríncipe, on the southwestern outskirts of Madrid. CEU Universities (the group listing used by QS) sits in the 1001–1200 band of the QS World University Rankings 2027; it is not given a single overall world place. The 348th-in-the-world figure CEU advertises is the QS international-student-diversity indicator, not the overall rank. The university opened 2026-27 with more than 2,700 new students. It offers smaller classes and modern labs than a large public campus, at private-university prices.
Academic programs
CEU San Pablo is strongest in health and professionally oriented degrees. El Mundo's 2025 "50 carreras" list placed Journalism 3rd in Spain and put Human Nutrition, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy in the top five. Medicine and Dentistry have clinical simulation labs; Medicine tuition for 2026-27 is €19,500 a year plus reservation and enrolment fees, and Dentistry is €18,900.
A typical non-health bachelor's is cheaper. ADE is €12,300 in Spanish or €13,500 in English for 60 ECTS in 2026-27; Law is €10,800 (Spanish) or €11,400 (bilingual). Published prices do not split local and international students. Class sizes are smaller than at large public universities. The academic approach is practical, with internships built into most programmes. Research output is more modest than at the big public research universities.
Campus life
The Montepríncipe campus is compact, modern, and well-maintained, with sports facilities, a library, cafeteria and study spaces. The downside is its suburban location — you need a bus or car to reach central Madrid, which can limit spontaneous weekday social life.
Student clubs include debate societies, volunteer organisations and professional associations. The Catholic identity influences campus culture (there is a chapel and some faith-based activities), though participation is optional. The social atmosphere is often described as professional and somewhat conservative. Weekend socialising typically happens in Madrid's city centre rather than on campus.
Exchange programs
CEU San Pablo publishes 440 agreements with foreign universities and more than 2,400 mobility places, allowing up to three semester stays. The Faculty of Economics and Business alone lists more than 130 partners, including schools in Germany, France, the Netherlands, Hong Kong and the United States. Erasmus+ covers Europe; bilateral agreements cover destinations outside the EU.
Incoming exchange students receive orientation and a buddy programme. English-taught courses have expanded, so a non-Spanish-speaking exchange student can often build a timetable, especially in business and international relations. Language support is available through the university's language centre (English, French and Spanish for foreigners).
Admissions
Admission is through the university's own process — an online form, academic transcripts and usually an interview. Medicine has separate entrance exams: for 2026-27 the published sittings are 16 October 2026, 16 January 2027 and 10 April 2027 (plus a later summer sitting). Other degrees use rolling admission until places fill. For 2026-27, national candidates had to complete reservation by early July after the ordinary PAU.
International applicants need credential recognition (homologation or UNEDasiss) and should apply early if they need a visa. There is no published bachelor's acceptance rate. Scholarships can cover a large share of tuition depending on grades and household income — check the current call rather than assuming a cap. The same fee tables apply to domestic and international students.
Student housing
CEU San Pablo does not have on-campus halls in the Anglo-Saxon sense, but partners with residences near Montepríncipe and in central Madrid. Colegio Mayor CEU is the closest full-board option and is at the expensive end of the Madrid market.
Students living in Moncloa, Argüelles or Chamberí can reach campus on dedicated university buses. Idealista put the average Madrid room at about €550 a month in mid-2026; central rooms and residences cost more. The admissions office offers housing assistance for international students. Book early — Madrid rentals are tight at semester start.
Career services
Career services are a genuine strength. U-Ranking 2025 (Fundación BBVA / Ivie) placed CEU San Pablo 4th in Spain on the employability index, with an overall employability rate around 92%. The university highlights internship volume, Social Security affiliation and permanent contracts among graduates. Career fairs, mentoring and alumni events are frequent.
The wider CEU alumni network is well represented in Spanish media, law and business. El Confidencial has listed the Law faculty among firms' preferred universities. Personalised coaching is more available here than at a 60,000-student public campus, which is a large part of what the tuition is paying for.
