Resumen
Sorbonne Université is a comprehensive public university created in 2018 by merging Université Paris-Sorbonne (humanities) and Université Pierre et Marie Curie (sciences). Its institutional roots go back to the Collège de Sorbonne in 1257. In the QS World University Rankings 2027 it is 73rd worldwide and 3rd in France, after Université PSL and Institut Polytechnique de Paris. Official figures list about 55,000 students, including 12,000 internationals.
The university has three faculties — Science and Engineering, Arts and Humanities, and Health (medicine) — and no law school (law in Paris is taught at other universities). Campuses sit across central Paris, with the historic Sorbonne building in the Latin Quarter. Living costs and housing are the main practical hurdles.
Oferta académica
Standout areas include mathematics (Fields Medal connections), physics, literature and medicine, with CNRS and INSERM research ties. Most undergraduate teaching is in French; a growing set of master's tracks is in English. The year follows two semesters with formal exams; large lectures are balanced by travaux dirigés. For 2026–27, national bachelor's fees are €178 for EU-equivalent students. Non-EU differentiated bachelor's fees are €2,902 (master's €3,950). Sorbonne's board approved an exemption policy so eligible non-EU students who apply can pay the standard rate; exemptions are capped nationally at 30% of non-EU students in 2026–27. All students also pay the CVEC (€105 in 2026–27) unless they hold a CROUS grant.
Vida en el campus
The Latin Quarter remains the everyday campus: bookshops, cheap restaurants and student cafés. Student associations (BDE) run events and trips. Sports facilities are thinner than on a suburban campus, but municipal gyms and the city's museums and nightlife fill the gap. Student discounts are widespread. The international cohort is large, especially in science and medicine.
Intercambios
Sorbonne is part of the 4EU+ Alliance and reports about 750 international programmes and more than 1,500 Erasmus+ mobilities a year, plus 12 strategic partners and a campus in Abu Dhabi. Incoming exchange students come through a home-university agreement, not as free movers. Course lists span all three faculties; bachelor teaching is mostly in French, so language preparation matters.
Admisión
French and EU first-year licences go through Parcoursup. The 2027 calendar had not been published as of September 2026; in 2026 wish lists opened on 19 January. Non-EU students from Campus France countries use the Études en France / DAP route (for 2026–27, DAP files typically opened in October and closed in mid-December). Master's applications are handled by each programme, usually in winter–spring. French at B2–C1 (DELF/DALF or TCF) is required for most degrees. There is no spring undergraduate intake and no published overall acceptance rate.
Alojamiento
CROUS rooms are scarce. From September 2026, published Paris CROUS T1 rents include about €236–289 at Résidence Coubertin (5th) and €371–436 at Résidence Bonaparte (6th). Apply via the CROUS DSE / trouverunlogement portal as soon as it opens. Most students rent privately — studios in Paris often run €800–1,200/month — or live in nearby communes on the metro or RER (13th, 14th, Montreuil, Ivry-sur-Seine). CAF housing aid (APL) can cut the bill for eligible tenants.
Empleabilidad
SCUIO-IP offers CV workshops, job boards and employer events. The Sorbonne name carries weight in France and francophone countries, especially for research, the public sector, consulting and health. Career support is less centralised than at Anglo-Saxon universities, so students need to chase internships themselves. Paris's density of headquarters still makes internships easier to find than in most French cities.
