Overview
Università Bocconi is Italy's leading private university for economics, management, law and the social sciences. Founded in 1902, it was the first Italian institution to grant a degree in economics. Because it is specialised, Bocconi does not appear in the overall QS World University Rankings 2027; QS instead ranks it in subject tables (Social Sciences and Management 12th worldwide in 2026). In the CENSIS 2026/2027 ranking of large non-state universities it is 2nd, behind LUISS. The Grafton Architects campus near Porta Bocconi and the Navigli won the RIBA International Prize.
In 2025–26 Bocconi enrolled 14,063 students, 31.4% of them international (largest groups from France, Turkey, Romania, China and the US). Milan's role as Italy's business capital puts banks, consultancies and fashion groups within easy reach.
Academic programs
Bocconi focuses on economics, management, finance, law, political science and quantitative fields. English-taught bachelor's programmes include Management, Finance, Economics, Management and Computer Science, Mathematical and Computing Sciences for Artificial Intelligence, and International Politics and Government; Economics and Management and the five-year Law degree are offered in Italian. Graduate options include the CEMS MIM, Finance, Marketing and Data Science. SDA Bocconi runs the MBA. The pace is quantitative and case-heavy. First-year bachelor's tuition for 2026–27 is €17,000 for all nationalities (master's €18,550), with large merit and need-based waivers — one in three students received some aid in 2025–26.
Campus life
The compact central campus, including the newer courtyards and rooftop running track, keeps student life close-knit. Milan supplies the rest: aperitivo in Navigli, shopping in the Quadrilatero, weekends at Lake Como. Student associations (B. in Action, Bocconi Students for Consulting and others) run professional events and parties; Bocconi Night and the Spring Festival are the social landmarks.
Exchange programs
Bocconi reports 293 partner universities in 56 countries and about 2,300 exchange students a year, with 38 double- or joint-degree agreements. Partners include leading North American, Asian and European business schools. A semester abroad is built into many degrees. Bocconi also belongs to CEMS and PIM. Incoming exchange students can take a wide range of English-taught courses in economics, management and finance.
Admissions
For 2027–28 Bocconi offers about 3,000 undergraduate places. International applicants have two rounds: Early Session (2–29 September 2026) and Winter Session (25 November 2026–26 January 2027). Selection is 55% test (Bocconi online test, SAT or ACT; LSAT or Bocconi Law test only for Law/Global Law) and 45% GPA from the two years before the final school year. There is no official published acceptance rate; undergraduate applications for 2026–27 were 13,528. English-taught programmes require an English certificate at enrolment. There is no spring intake.
Student housing
Bocconi reports about 2,800 beds across seven residences plus partner housing. Full-rate rooms for 2026–27 are typically €770–870/month (Isonzo singles €790 shared bath or €870 private bath); ISU preferential rates can fall to about €380–590. Standard assignment runs mid-August to late June. Places are limited and allocated by application. Most students rent privately in Navigli, Porta Romana, Porta Ticinese or Città Studi, where a room in a shared flat is often in the same €550–800 band. The housing office and verified listings help with the search.
Career services
Bocconi reports a 94.7% employment rate one year after graduation, with 36% of graduates working abroad. The Career Service and Bocconi & Jobs fair feed pipelines into consulting (McKinsey, BCG, Bain), investment banking, the Big Four and luxury groups. CEMS students also access that network's corporate partners. Starting salaries are high by Italian standards in finance and consulting.
