Overview

Universidad Tecnológica ECOTEC is a private university in the Guayaquil metropolitan area. It was created by Ley 65 (Registro Oficial 419, 18 December 2006) from the Ecomundo educational group and began teaching in 2007, so the older "2001" founding date was wrong. Its flagship Samborondón campus is at km 13.5 of the Vía Samborondón, in the gated-suburb corridor across the Daule River from Guayaquil. There is also a Guayaquil campus (Av. Juan Tanca Marengo km 2), a newer La Costa campus (Vía a la Costa km 16.5) and an online division.

ECOTEC is accredited by CACES (Resolution 124-SE-33-CACES-2020), extended by Resolution 216-SO-29-CACES-2025 until the next evaluation cycle. Its own 2025 accountability report states a QS Latin America and Caribbean 2026 position in the 251-300 band. In Webometrics July 2026 it ranks 37th in Ecuador and 6,362nd worldwide. A 2022 report gave about 15,000 students; the 2025 report does not give a comparable total, so student_count is null.

Academic programs

There are six faculties:

Degrees are taught in Spanish in face-to-face, hybrid and online modes, alongside online and blended masters.

Fees (2026, whole degree, face-to-face): most careers cost USD 25,152 (USD 22,000 tuition plus USD 3,152 enrolment fees across the programme). Engineering and Architecture cost USD 26,802, Civil Engineering USD 27,352, Veterinary Medicine USD 28,296 and Medicine USD 57,700. Online bachelor degrees cost about USD 10,400, and online masters around USD 5,100. The headline tuition figure of USD 25,152 is the standard whole-degree price, not a yearly fee. No separate foreigner price is published. The university reports that 47% of students hold some scholarship, and that more than 18,000 pay differentiated fees based on their socio-economic situation.

Campus life

The Samborondón campus is modern and car-oriented, with labs, cafeterias and sports areas. Life beyond campus revolves around the malls and restaurants of Samborondón and La Puntilla. Guayaquil proper, with its nightlife in Urdesa and Las Peñas, is a taxi ride away. ECOTEC hosts academic events such as the Innovatec congress.

Exchange programs

Internationalisation runs under a Go Global umbrella: faculty missions to Argentina and Panama, and new agreements such as Universidad Sergio Arboleda (Colombia) in 2025. The incoming-exchange flow is small and not documented publicly. Ask the international office for course lists and whether fee waivers apply under your home agreement. Admissions

As a private university, ECOTEC runs direct admission outside the public quota system, with intakes announced on its website. Information pending on 2027 dates — contributions welcome. Foreign applicants must homologate their secondary diploma with the Ministerio de Educación (apostilled and translated) and, for stays over the tourist allowance, obtain a student temporary residence visa through Cancillería's e-VISAS. Requirements include a passport valid for 6+ months, an apostilled criminal record, proof of means and an admission letter.

Student housing

ECOTEC has no residences. Nearby listings advertise furnished rooms for ECOTEC students at around USD 200-300/month (≈ €170-255), and suites in Entre Ríos at about USD 320 (≈ €275). Public transport along the Vía Samborondón is limited, so budget for ride-hailing or a car-share.

Career services
