Overview

The Universidad de Sucre (Unisucre) is the public departmental university of Sucre, on Colombia's Caribbean savannah. It was created by Ordenanza 01 of 24 November 1977, inaugurated on 5 August 1978, and granted university status by the MEN in 1995 (Resolución 1064). The main sede is at Carrera 28 #5-267, Barrio Puerta Roja, Sincelejo. It also runs the Granja Perico farm campus for agricultural sciences, a sede in the Eco-Región Mojana, and new offerings in Santiago de Tolú. MEN figures give 6,862 students in 2025; the university's own report counts 6,798 undergraduates in 2025-2.

Unisucre holds CNA institutional accreditation by Resolución 015153 of 2 August 2022, for six years (to 2028). Seven programmes are individually accredited:

We found no U-Sapiens or Scimago position.

Academic programs

Five faculties cover:

Most programmes take about 45 new students per intake. Postgraduate offer includes masters in Salud Pública, Biología, Ingeniería and Administración de Empresas. A doctorate in engineering sciences was at the relevance-study stage in 2025. Teaching is in Spanish. Note that not every programme opens every semester: Medicina was not offered in 2026-2 but is in the 2027-1 offer.

Tuition: fees follow the socioeconomic stratum and are set yearly (Resolución Rectoral 1412 de 2025 for 2026). We could not access the figures, so no tuition figure is given here. Eligible Colombians (no prior degree, meeting MEN criteria) are covered by the national Política de Gratuidad; foreigners are not, so ask admissions. The evening-programme (jornada alternativa) registration fee was COP 10,700.

Campus life

Puerta Roja is a compact urban campus in a mid-sized, hot savannah city. Student life runs through Bienestar sports and culture, research seedbeds (54 semilleros in 2025), and the region's festivals, above all the January Fiestas del 20 de Enero with corralejas. The Golfo de Morrosquillo beaches at Tolú and Coveñas are a short bus trip away. Information on sports facilities is pending — contributions welcome.

Exchange programs

Mobility is governed by Acuerdo 04 de 2020. Agreements and incoming students go through the Oficina de Posgrados, Educación Continuada y Relaciones Internacionales. The university's own history admits it was long "poco activa" internationally. Recent agreements include the Universidad Católica del Norte (Chile). There is no public inbound course catalogue or call, so arrange everything through your home office first.

Admissions

Admission is by Saber 11 score and circunscripción (quota group). Applicants upload documents, and admitted students take medical exams before financial enrolment. In 2025, 6,224 people registered and 1,749 enrolled as first-year students. That is not an official acceptance rate, so the field stays null. Foreign bachilleratos must be apostilled and convalidated with the MEN. Stays of more than 180 days, or nationals who need a visa, require the Cancillería Visa V Estudiante.

Student housing

No residences. Sincelejo is cheap. Rooms in Florencia, Venecia, El Cortijo or Majagual list at COP 200,000–550,000 per month. Pensiones with meals and laundry run around 450,000–480,000.

Career services

Graduates go mainly into regional health services, schools, agro-industry and local government. No structured career-services data was found: Information pending — contributions welcome.
